In 1995 the practice was commissioned by Ballymore Properties to renovate an office building on St. Stephen’s Green in the centre of Dublin. The required a total renewal of the cladding, the mechanical and the electrical services. This work also included the construction of two additional floors.
The practice was commissioned to fit out the topmost of these floors as a penthouse residence.
The layout responds to the many aspects and vistas afforded by the rooftop location.
Arrival in the penthouse is by an individually keyed lift, from the main entrance of the building, into a centrally located hallway.
This space curves towards the main living room on the right and to the main dining area on the left.
The beautifully bright living area has a glass wall that opens onto a terrace with views over Government Buildings and further, towards Dublin Bay. The dining area has its own individual terraces overlooking St. Stephen’s Green. The kitchen is placed discreetly behind the curved wall of the hallway.
The private quarters are concealed behind the public spaces. Access to the master bedroom is through the overlap in the walls of the hallway and dining area.
The master bedroom with study, dressing room and ensuite bathroom, has individual terraces overlooking St. Stephen’s Green.
The practice designed all the built-in furniture and fittings and selected the art-work by young Irish artists.
