The beauty of the bikes was the first thing that struck us when the practice was introduced to KDI, a company which assembled, distributed and sold a wide range of motor cycles. The practice was asked to renovate an existing industrial building to accommodate new assembly space, warehousing and showrooms for the company.
The new premises are located at the junction of two of Dublin’s main arterial routes into the city, the Longmile Road and the Naas Road (N7). A retail premises in this location has to project to passing traffic rather than to pedestrians.
The existing building is a typical industrial facility clad in a proprietary metal cladding. We removed the cladding on the wall to the road and attached a 3 dimensional steel frame based on the size of a motorcycle that would allow the most number of bikes to be displayed. This display was then fully glazed to the road and open to the shop to achieve maximum exposure for the product to customers inside the building and to commuters passing the building on the way into Dublin.
The strategy has been a huge success with an unprecedented increase in sales.
